Abstract:
Steven Vogel will offer a brief overview of trends in Japanese studies in the social sciences in the United States, with particular attention to political science. Which disciplines have been more or less prone to hiring Japan specialists? And how has that mix shifted over time? How has the Japanese case shaped broader debates in the disciplines? And how have the animating intellectual puzzles evolved? Vogel will address these questions and more.
